Gas Prices Are Too High

April 26, 2006 / by longthought

Yeah, I know $3.00/gal doesn't seem like a lot when you compare to Europe. Well I'm tired of hearing that comparison because it's not a true comparison, about 75% of their price is taxes for their social programs. If we could get what they get out of each gallon it might be worth the price, but, as it stands we are raked over the coals. We continue to give the major oil companies tax breaks into the billions while all the time they are making RECORD PROFITS at our expense. That means we are paying them at the pump and through our taxes, a double whammy that really hurts and makes me angry. It's not like this is just a fluke and the oil companies are having 1 or 2 banner years. They have been having banner years for over a decade now with the 3 big ones owning about 55% of the market. Yes I do think it's time, (over due), for the government to step in and put a stop to this price gouging either at the wholesale level where it costs about $20.00/gal to pull crude out of the earth or at the retail level where the big guys seem to be able to manipulate the cost at will.
But with this administration being oil barons themselves you can pretty much all we're going to get is a bunch of double talk and no action. I am so sick of this Administration that I'm going to do something I have never done before. Come November I am going to VOTE STRAIGHT PARTY LINES- DEMOCRATS ALL THE WAY NO MATTER WHAT. Not that they are any better it's just that if they get control of the House and/or the Senate maybe some accountability will come about in the White House.
Well that's enough ranting from me for now.

How you going to live with yourself if you pull that lever? It might feel good until you step outside the booth and realize you've made your personal contribution to a socialist hell.

I'll take what you call a Socialist Hell over a Fascist Farm any day.

Sorry Jimmy-you can’t blame the Republicans solely for this mess. It has been a bi-partisan effort led by a congress who has bowed to Environment Nazis. You know those zany tree huggers who would rather people freeze in Chicago than let use explore and drill and maybe ease our oil dependency on foreign sources. It took us over 20 years to get in this mess and it’s going to take that long to get out.

If these are my only two choices I may as well be in real hell. Must I choose between one extreme or the other?
Austin Texas may be about as near to facist hell as we have in this country so I can understand your dislike for it. I, on the other hand, live in Chicago where you can only get a job if you vote democratic. What'r ya gonna do?

could never vote along party lines. There might be a good guy somewhere in another party.

Y'all are right. I can't blame the Republicans for EVERRYTHING just most things, the record high deficit, the war, etc. and the only way to make this administration accountable is to have a Democratic House and/or Senate that has some real subpaena power to make Bush and them responsible for their actions. That will NEVER happen with the Republicans in control.[COOL]

oh the darn gas prices here in Southern Ontario Canada. LOL. came down a little but expecting it to go sky high come summer. It was $1.03.5 litre and came down today so far $1.01.2 litre and come summer probably about $1.40 litre. I know you guys go by galons but since this post was about fuel I just had to leave this comment. [HEART][TONGUE]
